Nicole

Welcome

My name is Nicole and I am a huge DIY fan. I grew up in a DIY family before the term had even been heard of. We were firm believers in using it up, making it do or doing without. Since none of us liked to do without, we became very resourceful. My father was constantly building us toys out of old parts. My best memories consist of my first bicycle lovingly made from a pile of rusted parts, elaborate cardboard boats and scrap part go karts. Thankfully, that maker spirit has followed me into my adult life.

When my health began to worsen about 5 years ago, I was at a loss. I eventually had to give up my work and apply for disability. My world had turned upside down and I could no longer do the things I used to take for granted. Everything seemed too difficult to mange. My body kept telling me that I was disabled but my mind kept telling me to go ahead and do some dumb activity. This often resulted in me getting hurt and regretting it. The more pain and fatigue that I encountered, the more I lost my maker self.

About a year ago, I started to wisen up. I didn’t want my disability to define me. There had to be a better way. I realized that a mind over matter approach would be a far better than a mind over body approach. I mean, I am an educated person, I should be able to find a way to cope with these physical challenges. As soon as I had made up my mind, I started realizing that my love of all things DIY, should be able to help me find a better quality of life. I applied this DIY spirit to every aspect of my life and I now consider myself differently-abled. After a while of applying DIY solutions to my own life, I decided that I want to be able to help people limit their limitations and become differently-abled. Realizing that there are not nearly as many resources out there for disabled DIYers as there are for able bodied individuals, I decided to create this website. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have enjoyed creating it. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, I would love to hear from you. I will always respond as quickly as I am able. However, due to my disabilities, there are many days when I am not up to working on this site. Please just be patient and I promise I will not forget you!

All the best,

Nicole
